How to optimize your small business Facebook page

Facebook is increasingly seen as one of the most important ways small businesses build their presence online. With many customers increasingly searching for local businesses on the platform, this is a perfect opportunity to engage them in a professional manner. Here are six easy things you can do to improve and optimize your small business Facebook Page.

1. Completely fill up your company information

Having your company information is one of the most important things you can do on your page to build trust with anyone on your page. Top of that list is information for your address and operating hours as that is what people search for. But do not ignore other parts such as your product category, descriptions, and overview. They provide Facebook a way to filter and show your page in their own search results.

2. Create an eye-catching cover image

Think of your cover image as prime space to grab the attention of people who land on your age. What would you like to show them? Is it a campaign, upcoming event or some branding you’d like to do? Make sure it is a high-resolution photo as it really is in the spotlight. Don’t forget to also include information in the caption so people who are interested and click on the cover picture are able to get more information.

3. Pin important posts to the top of your page

Following from the last tip, if you have a promotion or campaign going on, or even a great piece of content you put in a fair amount of resource to produce, pinning the post at the top of your page will give additional exposure and more opportunities for people to engage with the post. To pin a post, all you have to do is to click the downward pointing chevron and select ‘Pin To Top’.

4. Use a call-to-action button

At the end of 2014, Facebook introduced the ability for pages to include a call to action button. Pages can select from a predefined list of things to do like ‘sign up’ or ‘shop now’ from a prominent button at the top of the page, driving extra value and clicks to a website/eCommerce page. Some pages even use their cover photo to lead people to take action.

If you’ve not already done so, a “+ Add a button” button should appear right under your cover photo when you go to your Facebook page. It really is that simple.

5. Encourage customers to geo-tag your business

When people check into your business, a link is created in their post to their friends, encouraging them to click and discover your business. If you have a brick and mortar store, putting reminders and a reason for them to do so. This can come in the form of a simple request, or even perhaps a discount?

6. Backlink to your Facebook page from your website

If you have no already done so, you should link to your Facebook page from your website. This not only creates an additional way for people to discover your Facebook page but also helps with SEO discoverability.
